A Proverbs 31 Woman
Do you ever wonder where the time goes? It seems like only yesterday when I was a little girl spending a week with my grandparents during the summer. My sisters and I went to vacation Bible school at my grandparent's church. We didn't go to church at our house, so grandma and granddaddy's church were like our church for that week, and I learned a lot about being a Christian during those few weeks of summer.
I couldn't tell you which bible stories we read, what pictures we made, or the crafts we were encouraged to work on, but I can tell you about the godly example my grandma was to me. Some say we are the only Bible that some people will ever read, and during those summers at her house, I saw what a Proverbs 31 woman really looked like.
The lessons I learned so many summers ago are still fresh in my mind, and I think about them often. Grandma was a hardworking woman who loved her God, husband, children, community and her church, and did everything in her power to make sure all were provided for. She was a kind and loving person who always made time for people and never seemed impatient or unkind. She knew that what she had God provided, and she was always more than willing to share with a stranger or friend. Her husband, children, and grandchildren would rise up and call her blessed. Grandma has gone on to be with the Lord, but her life and lessons still live on. When I think about her, I wonder, am I showing the world how a Proverbs 31 woman is?
As I was reading Live, Laugh, Love, an e-book now available through DemmeHouse, I was reminded of Grandma and how she indirectly educated us girls about the importance of living life to the fullest, laughing often, and loving those around us, as Christ loved us. Friends, the summer is upon us, and we will be spending more and more time with the children in our lives. We need to be the Proverbs 31 example grandma was and still is. We have to start being the godly examples the world needs today.
We are encouraged to stand up as Christian women and proclaim what God's word says, and be the women of God we are called to be. We have a great responsibility to tell and show the children in our lives what a Christian woman is, how she acts and loves those around her. It's not easy to be godly examples when you think about it, but if you know God's word, pray and spend time alone with God, then it's not hard to live it. Grandma didn't know she was teaching us, or that we were even watching her. She wasn't perfect and would be the first to admit it, but she knew God and His love and forgiveness, and with just that, she made a difference in my life and the lives of countless others around her.
I encourage you today to learn what it means to live life as God intended, laugh in the face of adversity, and love those around you without conditions as Grandma did.
